Bernhard currently works as a pathologist in a highly specialized private community practice in Hamburg. For us, Bernhard analyzes and evaluates research results and progress of our portfolio companies at regular short-term intervals.

Following medical studies in Heidelberg, Bernhard received his PhD in the field of pharmacology. As a postdoctoral fellow, he conducted research in the Department of Molecular Physiology, National Cardiovascular Center Research Institute, Osaka, Japan, as well as in the Department of Cellular & Molecular Physiology, Yale University, New Haven, USA.

After working as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology, University of Würzburg, Germany, he habilitated in the field of anatomy and cell biology. This was followed by a visiting professorship in the Department of Physiology, Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand. He then retured to Germany and trained to become a specialist in anatomy and pathology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.
Bernhard has participated in various research projects of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in collaboration with the Agency for Science and Technology, Japan, Yale University, USA, and various others. He is a member of the Bundesverband der Deutschen Pathologen and the International Academy of Pathology.
